Flight attendant shares shower caps tip to avoid suitcase nightmare on holiday

Flight attendant Laren Loois took to TikTok to share an invaluable suitcase hack for your next holiday.

Holidaymakers tend to wash all their clothes before packing them in a suitcase for a big trip. However, many forget to clean their shoes – particularly the soles.

While many suitcases do have compartments perfect for shoes, a lot of travellers chuck them into their bags haphazardly.

This is a surefire way to transfer the dirt from the soles of your shoes to your gleaming holiday clothes – before you even set foot off the plane.

The flight attendant suggested that one item can be a godsend when it comes to preventing this packing problem – plastic shower caps.

These handy little items are inexpensive and are often complimentary in hotel rooms.

In a TikTok video entitled Hotel Hacks from a flight attendant (Part 37), the insider advised: “The shower cap can be used as shoe covers to keep your soles from getting dirt on other items in your bag.”

This convenient item is also useful on the way back from a trip, particularly if your holiday has involved lots of muddy walks.

Best Luggage Backpacks shared some of their own tips for keeping clothes fresh in a suitcase.

The site advised placing a dryer sheet in your suitcase for a fragrant aroma, or investing in some packing cubes to separate clean and dirty garments.

Best Luggage Backpacks also shared a shoe tip – but it’s not one for the faint of heart: “When shoes are stored inside your luggage, they tend to release their scent, which can quickly permeate your clothing. To avoid this problem, don’t travel with a second pair of shoes.”

If a second pair of shoes is unavoidable, use a shoe bag which attaches to the outside of carry-on luggage.

Lauren shared some more savvy flight attendant tips, including checking for bed bugs in a hotel room and avoiding the mugs and glasses provided.

Instead she recommended using only plastic-wrapped, single-use drinking cups.
