Camping and caravan holidays are back on following lockdown, and with the UK enjoying some toasty temperatures in the coming weeks, many Britons are eager to book. However, as a result of the pandemic, there are some key features that travellers should double-check campsites have put in place before they book their holidays.

The Camping and Caravan club has listed a series of key hygiene and social distancing measures it has put in place across its sites in the UK.
While measures at other sites may vary, it is likely they will follow a similar structure.
“The safety of our campers and site teams remains our highest priority,” explains the Camping and Caravan Club.
“To ensure the safety of you and site colleagues, we’ve introduced some new steps to safer camping in line with government guidance.”
Some of the main features being put in place across sites include:
Upon arrivals, holidaymakers will now be able to check-in “contactlessly”, which will help reduce the risk of spreading viruses between guests and staff.
The Camping and Caravan Club says it will utilise car registration plates and online payments.
The company website explains: “To facilitate contactless check-in, we’ll ask for your car registration details before you book. When you arrive on site, please remain inside your vehicle and a member of our site staff will welcome you and show you to your allocated pitch.”
Payment will automatically be taken from your account on the morning of your arrival onsite.
Similar measures are being practised at holiday sites including Butlins and Haven.

Distance between pitches
In order to ensure social distancing, campers will be asked to maintain a six-metre distance between surrounding pitches,
The number of campers is also set to be reduced on Club sites.
However, as a result, groups may not be able to pitch together.
The Camping and Caravan Club website warns: “Due to current practices it will be very difficult to pitch people into groups; where two individual bookers wish to be camped next to each other, we will do our best to facilitate, but we cannot guarantee you will be camped together.”

Closed communal areas
Some communal areas usually popular onsite will be closed this year due to the inability to ensure social distancing within.
“Unfortunately, for the time being, our receptions, play areas and other communal areas will remain closed,” explain the camping experts.
“This also means we won’t be able to sell gas.”
The good news is washing up facilities will still be available.
Much like all public spaces, hygiene measures will be ramped up throughout the site.
It is most likely this will be the case for any camping or holiday park travellers venture to.
For the Camping and Caravan Club owned sites specifically, this means enhanced cleaning rotas.
“We’re planning two deep cleans a day and four additional cleans,” they state.
While some facilities will not open their doors this year, other vital facilities will remain open, but visitors will have to queue to ensure social distancing.
“Floor markings will indicate the distance between campers and there will be marked spacing between cubicles and washing up spaces,” states the Camping and Caravan Club.
Though rules regarding onsite visitors vary from site to site, those operated by the Camping and Caravan Club will no longer allow offsite friends and family to visit pitches.
This is due to social distancing measures.
The company explains: “Campers will not be able to have any day visitors to their pitches – this will help us limit the number of people on our campsites.”
