The destination for the world’s best city break has been revealed in a new poll.
The survey, conducted by Which?, pulled together results based on customer satisfaction.
And findings showed that traditional British haunts are being pushed out by more vibrant options.
With six in 10 Brits taking a holiday in 2019, according to ABTA, we’re far more likely to be looking further away than usual.
Holidaymakers are now more likely to be on the hunt for new, less “done” locations.
The trend for Instagram-friendly hotspots is also pushing new stars into the top box for Brit holidays – as influencers and likes fuel our top picks.
In 2015, the tourism board for Wanaka, New Zealand began inviting influencers to enjoy adventures there – leading to the fastest tourism growth in the country at 14 per cent.
Now, in 2020, when Instagram users are uploading 95 million photos a day, 48 per cent of people have admitted that they rely on the App to inspire their next getaway.
This might explain why Which? found that New Orleans had taken the crown for our most-loved metropolis of 2019.
While fending off competitors including Dubai, New York and Cape Town, the Southern U.S city took the top spot thanks to: “Its laid back nature, friendly locals, fusion cuisine and the ease of getting around.”
The vibrant city, based on the Mississippi River, is best known for it’s exciting Mardi Gras, beignet’s, Creole food and stunning French Quarter.
