Spirit Airlines will begin serving Charleston on April 5. The budget carrier will fly daily to the South Carolina port city from Newark, Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale.
Spirit will compete against American and Frontier on the Philadelphia-Charleston route. It will vie with JetBlue and Silver Airways in Fort Lauderdale and United in Newark.

Spirit is doing an introductory one-way fare starting at $49 in Charleston, Newark and Fort Lauderdale on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays only. Passengers traveling between Charleston and Philadelphia get an introductory fare starting at $39. Fares must be purchased 14 days in advance to qualify.
