On February 5, the UAE suspended flights to mainland China, cutting off the UAE’s air links with the country.
At the time, UAE authorities noted that the suspension did not apply to flights to Hong Kong.
Earlier this week, the UAE banned flights to all Iran for a seven—day period.
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority added that the flight suspensions could be extended in the future.
“The decision is a precautionary measure undertaken by the UAE to ensure strict monitoring and prevention of the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19,” the authority said.
Similarly, on Monday, Bahrain temporarily banned flights to and from Dubai and Sharjah. Kuwait also stopped flights to Iran, South Korea, Thailand, Italy and Iraq.
