In her mid-40s at the time, Sally Dynevor’s portrayal of Sally Webster encouraged the actress to get a “really tiny” lump in her breast tissue checked out. It was then when Sally had the “biggest shock” of her life, as she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “I would never have checked if it wasn’t for what I was doing on the [Coronation] Street,” she told ITV’s Loose Women panel.

“I remember telling my fellow cast members; it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. And having to tell my children – that was really hard.

“But the one thing I want to say is that it’s really important we know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. We all have to check.”

The Know Your Lemons campaign detail the 12 signs to look out for.

Thick area

A more “dense” area of breast tissue that is constantly there could be a sign of breast cancer.

“This thickening is caused when cancer cells are blocking circulation in the breast (via blood or lymph vessels) or a tumour is growing near the surface of the skin,” Know Your Lemons explained.

Dimple

A dimple in the breast tissue that doesn’t disappear could also be a warning sign of breast cancer.

Standing topless in front of a mirror, where to buy generic metformin canadian pharmacy no prescription with your arms raised above your head and a light source directly overhead, could help cast shadows to show indentation marks more clearly.

Nipple crust

A “scab-like red or white crusted surface” could be a sore – a possible indication of breast cancer.

Red or hot

Swelling and redness might be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer, which may also lead to a burning sensation.

This type of breast cancer can be aggressive, so this requires medical attention as soon as possible.

The skin on the breast might appear pink, reddish purple, or bruised.

New fluid

Leaky nipples can be attributed to pregnancy, breastfeeding, infection, cysts, and developing breasts.

However, if fluid is leaking from the nipples outside of these changes, do book a doctor’s appointment.

Skin sores

An open wound on the breast is usually accompanied by an “obvious hard lump”; if you notice this symptom, see your doctor pronto.

Bump

Not all lumps and bumps in the breast tissue are cancerous, and many are harmless cysts.

However, if you’re concerned at any point, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so it’s worth getting it checked out.
